Well, here we are, \u2026.. the dreaded \u201chow on earth will I ever learn Morse code\u201d?\u00a0 The great news is that there are tons of resources and tools for learning the code.\u00a0 More than that, there are several organizations that offer formal training at no cost to you, and these folks are dedicated to helping people not only learn Morse code, but to become extremely proficient.\u00a0 Two organizations that come to mind are highlighted below.\u00a0 Both are composed of terrific people and proficient CW operators and trainers, who are eager to work with anyone wanting to learn and become proficient at sending and receiving Morse Code: CW Academy is a program put on by the CW Operators\u2019 Club aimed at increasing the number of competent CW operators on the HF CW sub-bands. It addresses all levels of enthusiasts: from those aspiring to become licensed operators who want to learn and use Morse code; to veteran operators who are intent on increasing their CW skills, speed and activity.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There are other clubs for CW operators, each with its attractions. CWops is very different and stands out as a unique international organization because it advances the \u201cstate of the art\u201d of operating across the full spectrum of CW activities \u2013 early introduction, rag chewing, contesting, DXing, and awards chasing.<\/p>\n

Organized in January 2006 the Club has thousands of members around the globe.<\/p>\n Club Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n K1USN\u2019s Slow Speed Test is designed to encourage and assist those who signed up for the CWops CW Academy to learn CW or to improve their CW skills but are not yet copying 25 WPM. The activity has an upper limit of 20wpm but we encourage participants to use any slower speed they are comfortable with.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Everybody is welcome join in the SSTs including new ops making their first attempt at completing a CW QSO. In addition to SST\u2019s 20 WPM upper speed limit, we ask all to be patient, supportive, and willing to slow down as necessary to match the other op\u2019s speed. The objective is a no pressure event that provides \u201con the air\u201d CW practice.
